![]() ![]() WCPSS leaders are constantly reevaluating safety protocols and making improvements where necessary. WCPSS has strong security measures already in place, including locked exterior doors, security cameras, protocols for school lock downs, protocols for responding to weapons on campus, etc. School safety must be comprehensive and not only include protections from intruders and gun violence but also supports for student and staff well being. Students, teachers and staff deserve safe learning environments. It is essential for the school board to work to improve policies and working conditions for our teachers. Teachers must feel respected and valued by the district. Ensure that WCPSS schools are places where teachers feel supported, want to teach, and want to work.Support expansion of our “grow your own” program which recruits WCPSS high school students to become educators and return to work in our school system.Greater funding must come from state lawmakers and state dollars, and as a school board member, I can advocate for fully funding the Leandro decision with existing state dollars and telling the state to fulfill the state’s Constitutional obligations to fund public education. While there are no easy solutions to this crisis, as your school board representative, I will: Working to solve this crisis must be a priority for school board members if we are to serve our students’ academic needs, as we are required to do. Similar to national trends, WCPSS is experiencing staffing shortages that are impacting classrooms at all grade levels and across school careers: teachers, bus drivers, substitutes, cafeteria workers, and mental health professionals. ![]()
